Fun facts about the sand cat

The ones Sammy likes best. She tells them in the game, too.

  1. Thick fur grows under its toes like built-in sandals, so the hot sand doesn't burn its feet.

  2. It can live without drinking water, because it gets almost all the water it needs from its food.

  3. Its big, low ears can hear little animals rustling under the sand before it digs them out.

  4. Even grown-up sand cats keep a round, soft kitten face their whole lives.

  5. Its furry feet leave footprints so faint that people can hardly follow its tracks.

  6. It is one of the smallest wild cats in the world, smaller than many pet cats.

  7. This tiny cat can call with a loud, deep barking yowl that sounds far too big for it.

  8. It is a great digger and often moves into burrows made by foxes or porcupines and makes them bigger.

Riddle

Can a friend guess it?

Read the clues to someone, one at a time, without saying the animal. How many clues do they need? Fewer is better, just like in the game.

  1. I live in a hot, dry desert and spend the day resting in a burrow.

  2. I can live without ever drinking water, because my food gives me all the water I need.

  3. Thick fur grows under my toes, so the hot ground never burns my feet.

  4. My big, low ears hear little animals rustling underground, and then I dig them out.

  5. I look like a tiny house cat with a kitten face my whole life, but I'm wild.

Sammy might be thinking of a sand cat.

In Thought Zoo, Sammy picks an animal and you ask her yes-or-no questions to find it. You'll find the sand cat in the Desert adventure.
